SPIDERS TARANTULAS

A variety of Spiders and specifically Tarantulas are commonly found in the area.  As with most insects they are more abundant at different times of the year.

Tarantulas are scary looking to many people.  For the most part they are harmless and won’t bother you.

It is always wise to shake out your bedding, tent or hammock, before going to bed at night.  If you leave shoes or boots exposed and unattended, be sure to knock those out as well.

Tarantulas are nocturnal hunters, but they are often seen during the day. They range in colors of tans and browns. The males are larger and typically have black or darker legs.

Tarantulas are venomous like most spiders. But they are quite docile and only bite under extreme harassment. The venom is usually not harmful to humans. At the most you might experience discomfort for a day or two if bitten.

They do have barbed (urticating hairs) on the abdomen that are very irritating to the eyes and nose, should you somehow mess with these.

As with any wildlife. Observe from a distance and enjoy the moment. Let these hairy spiders move off and eat more bugs.
